Pursuing His presence

Listen to Audio While reading the sermon outline.

Ecclesiastes 4:12 (NLT) 12A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

I want to talk about entwining ourselves in the manifest presence of God.

Positioning yourself for His presence &

Positioning yourself in His presence.

Exodus 33:14 - 16 (NASB) 14And He said, “My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest.” 15Then he said to Him, “If Your presence does not go with us, do not lead us up from here. 16“For how then can it be known that I have found favor in Your sight, I and Your people? Is it not by Your going with us, so that we, I and Your people, may be distinguished from all the other people who are upon the face of the earth?”

Exodus 33:14 (NKJV) 14And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

Hebrews 4:9 (KJV) 9There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

a “sabbatism”, that is, (figuratively) the state of peace of Christianity (as a type of heaven):—rest.

Isaiah 40:31 (KJV) 31But they that wait(1) upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

(1) to bind together

There is great strength in being entwined in His presence. Because in Him I live & move & have my being. In His presence there is fullness of joy. In Him is my strength. He is my shield & my fortress.

But you see we have to understand this – not with our natural intellect.

We have to be mystical.

Mysticism is the pursuit of achieving communion or identity with, or conscious awareness of God through direct experience, intuition, or insight; and the belief that such experience is an important source of knowledge, understanding, and wisdom.

Mysticism is the philosophy and practice of a direct experience of God.

  • Mysticism, the belief in realities beyond perceptual and/or intellectual understanding.
  • Christian mysticism , the philosophy and practice of a direct experience of God

Paul was accused of being a mystic. Even Peter & John the Baptist.

Mysticism is communion with God in a real, experiential way.

I would say that most of what is being preached today is intellectual Christianity but God wants us to come into a mystical Christianity – to experience His manifest presence, His manifest power & His manifest purposes.

We have to be presence based.

So how do I entwine myself in God.

John 15:5 (NASB) 5“I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.

The number one thing is intimacy with God.

Psalms 27:4 (NKJV) 4 One thing I have desired of the Lord,     That will I seek:     That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life,     To behold the beauty of the Lord,     And to inquire in His temple.

Without intimacy we can do nothing—“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit for with out me you can do nothing” (Jn. 15:5).

John 15:5 (TMSG) 5“I am the Vine, you are the branches. When you’re joined with me and I with you, the relation intimate and organic, the harvest is sure to be abundant. Separated, you can’t produce a thing.

The first thing we have to do is to come into a place of being totally dependent on God. After all, Jesus is the vine and we are the branches. In order for us to grow in the deep things of God and to become a “manifester” of God’s glory we need to be totally connected to the vine—Jesus.

We have to be dependent on intimacy with God. It is only in the place of intimacy that we will be positioned to receive the necessary sap to bear fruit. The sap is the anointing and direction of God’s voice. The sap is what the Vine produces and releases to the branches so that they can bear fruit.

John 15:7, 8 says: “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this is My Father glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be my disciples.” It’s all about abiding in Jesus and having His words abide in us.

The key is to come into a place of intimacy, to where we can hear the voice of God.

God expects us be in a place of expectancy to hear His voice

John 10:27 says: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” God wants us to hear and follow His voice because if we become obedient to what God tells us to do, we will see the manifestation of God’s glory.

Entwining ourselves in God enables God to do huge things in, for & through us.

I want you to come into the Holy of Holies. I want you not just to experience His presence but to carry His presence.
